follicle-stimulating hormone

Hormone produced by the pituitary gland. It affects the ovaries in women, stimulating the production of an egg cell.

Luteinizing hormone is needed to complete the process. In men, FSH stimulates the testes to produce sperm. It is used to treat some forms of infertility.
