External blood-sucking parasite, chiefly of horses. It is about 8 mm/0.3 in long and bears brown and yellow flecks.

The forest fly Hippobosca equina is a member of the insect family Hippoboscidae in order Diptera, class Insecta, phylum Arthropoda.
