fox terrier

Breed of terrier evolved for use in foxhunts to attack foxes in their earths (dens) where the larger foxhound was unable to reach them. Two types are distinguished – the smooth- and wire-haired; but both have a mainly white coat with large brown and/or black markings. They weigh about 8 kg/17.5 lb, stand up to 39 cm/15 in tall, and carry their short, usually docked, tails upright.
