Freshwater

Seaside resort on the western extremity of the Isle of Wight (see Wight, Isle of), England, 16 km/10 mi west of Newport; population (2001) 5,360. Freshwater lies on the estuary of the River Yar, and is noted for its caves. It was the home of the poet Tennyson 1853–69. The parish church dates from the 11th century.
