full line forcing

Practice employed by suppliers to force retailers to carry an entire product line rather than one individual product. It is a restrictive trade practice that discourages competition. When a powerful supplier ‘asks’ a retailer to display its entire product range, or none at all, suppliers are often forced to agree. Rival brands suffer when these extra products take up shelf space.
