gap analysis

Technique used to determine an unfulfilled need in a market. In gap analysis, a table is made of a product category with all product features listed. Cross-listed against this is a list of all the known customer requirements. The resulting table should indicate any consumer needs that are not met by existing product features, thus revealing any gap in the market.
