The gavial (also known as the gharial), a large and very rare reptile, is a relative of the crocodile. It inhabits rivers in northern India and Myanmar, and has an exceptionally long nose and jaw.

Large reptile related to the crocodile. It grows to about 7 m/23 ft long, and has a very long snout with about 100 teeth in its jaws. Gavials live in rivers in northern India, where they feed on fish and frogs. They have been extensively hunted for their skins, and are now extremely rare. (Species Gavialis gangeticus.)
