Agaricus

Genus of fungi in the family Agaricaceae of the class Basidiomycetes, mostly known as mushrooms. A. campestris is the common or field mushroom and A. bisporus, the cultivated mushroom.

The horse mushroom A. arvensis, wood mushroom A. silvicola, brown wood mushroom A. silvaticus, fairy ring mushroom A. pratensis, and bleeding mushroom A. haemorrhoidarius are edible; while the yellow-staining mushroom A. xanthodermus and saffron-yellow-staining mushroom A. flavescens, can be poisonous.
