Capra

Genus of ruminant mammals that includes goats and ibexes.

Males of the various species are bearded and have a strong smell. Both sexes have horns but those of the males are larger; they are either curved or twisted but never along the side of the head as in sheep. All species live in mountainous areas, the largest being the markhor C. falconeri from the Himalayas. The domestic goat is in the same group.

Classification

Capra is in family Bovidae, order Artiodactyla.
