Cystopteris

Genus of about 18 species of temperate ferns in the family Aspleniaceae. The brittle bladder fern C. fragilis is common on rocks and walls in limestone districts; the mountain bladder fern C. montana is found on damp rocks; C. bulbifera has fleshy bulblets in the axils of the upper pinnae leaflets, which break off and give rise to new plants.
