glycineSimplest amino acid, and one of the main components of proteins. When purified, it is a sweet, colourless crystalline compound. Glycine was found in space in 1994 in the star-forming region Sagittarius B2. The discovery is important because of its bearing on the origins of life on Earth. Glycine is the only biogenic amino acid that is not chiral. How to thank TFD for its existence?
