A third development behind the surge of interest in redistricting reform is the more aggressive actions by national party leaders to orchestrate partisan gerrymanders in the states. City Hall that gerrymanders them into positions of electoral irrelevance and takes its cues from downtown special interests at the expense of neighborhoods and communities. While The Wall Street Journal and other national organs with reliable conservative credentials have heaped well-deserved scorn on ridiculous gerrymanders in North Carolina and othe states, they have largely ignored the culpability of Republicans. |
