Opera by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (libretto by E Golisciani and C Zangarini), first produced, in German, at the Kurfürsten-Oper, Berlin, Germany, on 23 December 1911. It tells how Gennaro wins Mariella by stealing the jewels of the Madonna, but the rival Raffaele intervenes and the lovers kill themselves.
