globular cluster

Spherical or near-spherical star cluster containing from approximately 10,000 stars to many millions. About 200 known globular clusters are distributed in a spherical halo around our Galaxy. They consist of old stars, formed early in the Galaxy's history. Globular clusters are also found around other galaxies.
