halophyte

Plant adapted to live where there is a high concentration of salt in the soil, for example in salt marshes and mud flats.

Halophytes contain a high percentage of salts in their root cells, so that, despite the salt in the soil, water can still be taken up by the process of osmosis. Some species also have fleshy leaves for storing water, such as the salt marsh Spartina and the salt-primrose Glauk maritima.
