Tuckahoe

Community in Eastchester town, southeastern New York State, 29 km/18 mi northeast of New York City; population (1990) 6,300. Primarily residential, it was a farming area until the early 19th century, when marble deposits were discovered east of the Bronx River.

Tuckahoe marble was used in the construction of the Capitol and the Washington Monument in Washington DC.

Community in eastern Virginia, just northwest of Richmond, along the James River and Tuckahoe Creek; population (1990) 42,600. It is a largely residential suburb.
