greyhound racing

Spectator sport that has a number of greyhounds pursuing a mechanical hare around a circular or oval track. The mechanical hare was invented in 1912 and the first track was opened in the USA in 1919. It is popular in the UK, USA, and Australia, attracting much on- and off-course betting.
