ground controlled interception

    0.01 sec.

ground controlled interception

British term for the ground command of fighter aircraft during and after the Battle of Britain 1940.

Using advanced radar, the British could see German air formations at considerable ranges which enabled ground controllers to direct fighter aircraft into the path of the enemy, doing away with the need to fly standing patrols across likely approaches.
