glucose tolerance test

In medicine, a method of assessing the efficiency of the body to metabolize glucose, which is used in the diagnosis of diabetes. It involves the starvation of the subject for several hours before giving a standard amount of glucose by mouth. Concentrations of glucose are measured in the blood and the urine over several hours.
