gun tank

    0.07 sec.

gun tank

In World War I, British tank designed to carry a 60-pounder (5-inch) gun across broken ground. It resembled the regular tanks of the period but the rear of the body was a flat platform on which the gun was clamped, without its wheels. Once the gun had been taken to its position the wheels were replaced and it was then used in the normal way.

The idea worked but was cumbersome: guns could be towed faster by ordinary tractors and the gun tanks were converted into munition transports.
