Congenital facial deformity, a cleft in the upper lip and jaw, which may extend back into the palate (cleft palate). It can be remedied by surgery.

I discovered, to my surprise, that Alvaro Colom was born with a physical handicap, a harelip, and that he had surgery and took a long time to learn how to talk.
