Hatch

Village in Dona Ana County, southwestern New Mexico; population (1990) 1,100. Hatch lies on the Rio Grande and Interstate 25, 48 km/30 mi north-northwest of Las Cruces.

Hatch is situated in an irrigated area some 32 km/20 mi downstream from the Caballo Reservoir, and has become known as the ‘Chili Capital of the World’ for its chili pepper production. The Hatch Valley is also becoming fashionable as a residential area.
