plum

Smooth-skinned, oval, reddish-purple or green edible fruit of the plum tree. There are many varieties, including the Victoria, czar, egg-plum, greengage, and damson; the wild sloe (P. spinosa), which is the fruit of the blackthorn, is closely related. Dried plums are known as prunes. (Genus Prunus domestica, family Rosaceae.)

Borough of Allegheny County, southwestern Pennsylvania, USA, on the Allegheny River, 19 km/12 mi northeast of Pittsburgh; population (1990) 25,600. It is primarily residential, with some light industry.
