Hove

Residential town and seaside resort, and from 1998 the administrative headquarters of Brighton and Hove unitary authority, on the south coast of England, adjoining Brighton to the west; population (2001) 72,300. One of the world's pioneering film-making centres at the beginning of the 20th century, it was home to a group of British film-makers known as the Brighton School.

Hove developed as a resort in the 19th century and includes Regency-style squares and terraces, as well as many parks and public gardens. The Sussex county cricket ground is here. It was the home of English novelist Ivy Compton-Burnett from 1892 to 1916.
