heliosphere

Region of space through which the solar wind flows outwards from the Sun. The heliopause is the boundary of this region, believed to lie about 100 astronomical units from the Sun, where the flow of the solar wind merges with the interstellar gas.

Contracting or expanding as the solar wind blows slower or faster, the heliosphere generously envelops all the planets.

Data suggest that the edge of the shock could be one billion miles closer to the sun in the southern region of the solar system than in the north, suggesting perhaps that the heliosphere is irregularly shaped.
