haematoma

Accumulation of blood in the tissues, causing a solid swelling. It may be due to injury, disease, or a blood clotting disorder such as haemophilia.

A computed tomography scan showed a fracture of the left temporal bone and an epidural hematoma in the left temporoparietal area.
We report a case of retropharyngeal hematoma in which an accurate diagnosis was obtained on CT by virtue of the detection of a sentinel clot adjacent to the area of the parathyroid and thyroid glands.
Hematoma or infarction of the spleen might be followed by the development of a splenic abscess, a clinical condition that has been reported in only 1 patient, to our knowledge (4).
