hidden fifths, hidden octaves

    0.01 sec.

hidden fifths, hidden octaves

In music, the movement of two parts in the same direction to a fifth or an octave. In many contrapuntal styles this is to be avoided, especially when involving the top or bottom line. Textbooks in formal counterpoint gave them this title as having an effect similar to that of consecutives.
