burnout

In business, physical or psychological condition induced in workers by overwork or overexposure to stress in the workplace. Burnout markedly impairs the performance of an employee and may even incapacitate them. Some jobs are known to cause burnout, and employees may expect to work in such positions for a limited period only. Jobs known to cause burnout, such as trading in financial markets, tend to be very well paid. In other industries burnout is unpredictable and companies take measures to guard against it, such as enforcing holiday breaks and introducing stress management programmes.
