high-tech industry

Any industry that makes use of advanced technology. The largest high-tech group is the fast-growing electronics industry and especially the manufacture of computers, microchips, and telecommunications equipment.

The products of these industries have low bulk but high value, as do their components. Silicon Valley in the USA and Silicon Glen in Scotland are two areas with high concentrations of such firms.
