ungulateGeneral name for any hoofed mammal. Included are the odd-toed ungulates (perissodactyls) and the even-toed ungulates (artiodactyls), along with subungulates such as elephants. In 1996 the fossil jaws and teeth of an early ungulate were discovered in Russia. The fossils are believed to be 85 million years old, indicating that ungulates were in existence 20 million years before the extinction of the dinosaurs. How to thank TFD for its existence?
