| Some say that worldwide there could be twice as much energy stored in hydrates as in all the other known energy resources combined, including coal, oil, and conventional natural gas deposits. This most recent and largest specimen sighting was aboard the submersible Alvin, when NOAA researchers were investigating gas hydrates deep in the sea when the squid swam into view. Scientists first discovered methane hydrates in 1970, while drilling into the seafloor. |
