Hare's apparatus is used to compare the density of two liquids. When air is removed from the top of the apparatus, the liquids rise in the tubes to heights which are inversely proportional to their densities.

Instrument used to measure the relative density of liquids (the density compared with that of water). A hydrometer consists of a thin glass tube, weighted so that it floats upright, sinking deeper into less dense liquids than into denser liquids. Hydrometers are used in brewing and to test the strength of acid in car batteries.

The hydrometer is based on Archimedes' principle.

The high-resolution glass hydrometers that were utilized had a resolution of 0.
However, Baume and Hydrometers are strongly influenced by both refractory concentration and viscosity, and the Baume test alone does not provide sufficient information to fully control coating parameters.
The hydrometers should be clean and dry with a resolution of at least [0.
