Husayn (627–680)

Second grandson of the prophet Muhammad. He was the son of Ali bin Abu Talib and Muhammad's daughter Fatima. He was murdered at Karbalā (modern Iraq), and his death is commemorated every year by Shia Muslims. It is through Husayn and his brother Hasan that Muhammad's descendants trace their lineage.
