In computing, computerized service on the Internet that automatically scans servers and compiles lists of the information they hold to make it easier for users to find what they are looking for.

Indexing servers for FTP (File Transfer Protocol) are called Archie servers. On the World Wide Web, the best-known indexing service is Yahoo!, which organizes sites by categories and subcategories, and also allows free-form searching.
