inertial guidance system

Navigation system that makes use of gyroscopes and accelerometers to monitor and control a vehicle's movements. A computer calculates the vehicle's position and corrects any deviation from the proper course. Inertial navigation is used in aircraft, submarines, spacecraft, and guided missiles.
