Two widely discussed hypotheses involve infection with cytomegalovirus and the use of nitrate inhalants. Tom Hedrick, director of The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, said inhalants and medicine abuse are the two biggest problems that the nonprofit is seeing and are also the least understood, with parents being even less aware of it. Inhalants are toxic--that is, poisonous chemical vapors that can be misused to produce mind-altering effects, often with disastrous results. |
