initiative, referendum, and recall

Processes used by voters to affect directly law making and the removal of elected representatives. An initiative petition is for the origination of a law or constitutional amendment, which is then either voted on in special or general election or acted on by the legislature. Referendum is a final approval vote on a law or policy. Recall is a petition method to remove an elected representative, by special election, before the term of office expires.
