gravureOne of the three main printing methods, in which printing is done from a plate etched with a pattern of recessed cells in which the ink is held. The greater the depth of a cell, the greater the strength of the printed ink. Gravure plates are expensive to make, but the process is economical for high-volume printing and reproduces illustrations well. |

The distinctive feel of genuine currency paper, the raised surface that results from intaglio printing, and the red and blue security fibers were sufficient as low-level security features to deter counterfeiting. Crown Point is particularly known for the quality of its intaglio printing, but it also offers expertise in photogravure, monotype, and, on occasion, woodcut. By scoring the flat surface of the potato wit a knife and then rubbing acrylic paint into the lines, she achieves a combination of relief and intaglio printing, with the intaglio lines providing textures that print darker than the smooth relief surface. |
