interferometry![]() The baseline in astronomical interferometry is the distance between a pair of flat mirrors. The visibility is the difference in brightness between a light fringe (where the light wave crests and troughs come together) and the relative darkness between fringes. If visibility is plotted against the baseline, the maximum visibility occurs at baseline zero and decreases as the baseline increases. At the resolved point visibility is zero.

| The Xi-100 is said to complement the company's XP Series of stylus-type surface profilers by combining white light and phase-shifting interferometry for precise, non-destructive surface measurements that are internally and permanently referenced to a standard wavelength of light, according to the literature. The more technical description is: "Non-contact, three-dimensional surface measurement using frequency modulated and optical phase-shifting interferometry. They highlight new results and developments in such topics as neutron electric dipole moment searches, neutron optics and interferometry, Standard Model tests using neutron beta decay, neutron facilities, neutron polarimetry, and nucleon-nucleon interactions. |
