intraocular lens

Thin plastic disc similar to a contact lens inserted through an incision in the eye to replace the clouded lenses of cataract sufferers. The treatment was pioneered by English opthalmologist Harold Ridley (1906–2001).

Tokyo, Japan, June 13, 2006 - (JCN) - Canon Staar, an affiliate of Canon Marketing Japan, announced on June 13 that it and NIDEK have succeeded in commercializing Acrylic Preset IOL System, an acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) system for treating cataract.
Staar made its name in the early 1990s by marketing the first foldable intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract surgery.
Rather, he's an eye surgeon, internationally recognized as an authority on cataract extractions, who's performed more cataract and intraocular lens implant surgeries than anyone else in the world.
