tubeOr electron tube in electronics, a glass tube containing gas at low pressure, which is used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit. The electron tube valve was invented by US radio engineer Lee de Forest (1873–1961). Three or more metal electrodes are inset into the tube. By varying the voltage on one of them, called the grid electrode, the current through the tube can be controlled, and the tube can act as an amplifier. Tubes have been replaced for most applications by transistors. However, they are still used in high-power transmitters and amplifiers, and in some hi-fi systems. How to thank TFD for its existence? The material's smooth surface finish facilitates the insertion of the intubation tube into the trachea, helping to alleviate forces traditionally applied during insertion that can damage the patient's teeth. Nurse Cruce administered a paralytic agent that, while preventing aspiration, caused the patient to be entirely dependent upon the intubation tube for his oxygen supply. In addition, following recent clearance by the Food and Drug Administration, we have begun to market a new product in our LacriCATH line, the STENTube intubation tube, and we also have commenced international distribution of our LacriCATH products. |
