Behaviour not under conscious control, for example the contractions of the gut during peristalsis or the secretion of adrenaline by the adrenal glands. Breathing and urination reflexes are involuntary, although both can be controlled voluntarily to some extent. These processes are regulated by the autonomic nervous system.
