itch mite

Any member of Sarcoptidae, a family of the Acarina that is parasitic on the skin of mammals, birds, and insects. Sarcoptes scabiei causes the diseases scabies in people and mange in animals.

Notoedres, Prosopodectes, Sarcoptes, and Chorioptes are among the commonest genera.
