corneal graft

In medicine, the replacement of a damaged or diseased cornea by a cornea from a human donor. Indications for corneal grafting include severe corneal scarring as a result of herpes virus infections, alkali burns, or eye injuries. Rejection of the corneal graft may occur due to stimulation of the immune system of the recipient by foreign proteins of the donor. Rejection results in oedema (fluid accumulation) and poor vision.

Conductive Keratoplasty (NearVision CK) has become one of the fastest growing new refractive procedures since the introduction of LASIK at the UCLA Laser Refractive Center.
Eye doctors say some degree of reading-vision loss is inevitable with age, which is why a new procedure called conductive keratoplasty or CK - in which radio waves are used to reshape the cornea - has some baby boomers rejoicing.
Radial Keratotomy (RK), Astigmatic Keratotomy (AK), and Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty (ALK), are commonly performed procedures selected by people who want to be less dependent on glasses or contact lenses for the correction or improvement of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
