hertz

SI unit of frequency (the number of repetitions of a regular occurrence in one second). A wave source has a frequency of 1 Hz if it produces one wave each second. Human beings have an audible range from approximately 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Radio waves are often measured in megahertz (MHz), millions of hertz, and the clock rate of a computer is usually measured in megahertz. The unit is named after German physicist Heinrich Hertz.
