Aromatic herb belonging to the mint family. Wild marjoram (O. vulgare) is found in both Europe and Asia and has become naturalized in the Americas; the sweet marjoram (O. majorana) used in cooking is widely cultivated. (Genus Origanum or Marjorana, family Labiatae.)
