kudu

Either of two species of African antelope. The greater kudu (T. strepsiceros) is fawn-coloured with thin white vertical stripes, and stands 1.3 m/4.2 ft at the shoulder, with head and body 2.4 m/8 ft long. Males have long spiral horns. The greater kudu is found in bush country from Angola to Ethiopia. The similar lesser kudu (T. imberbis) lives in East Africa and is 1 m/3 ft at the shoulder. (Genus Tragelaphus, family Bovidae.)
