The direction of a sea breeze can vary depending on which is warmer, the land or the sea. Warm air rises and is replaced by cool air. When the land is warmer than the sea, the warm air rises drawing in the cooler air from the sea, creating an onshore breeze. The opposite happens when the sea is warmer than the land, drawing cooler air from the land creating an offshore or land breeze.

Gentle breeze blowing from the land towards the sea and affecting coastal areas. It forms at night in the summer or autumn, and tends to be cool. By contrast, a sea breeze blows from the sea towards the land.
