lang, k(athryn) d(awn)

    0.10 sec.

lang, k(athryn) d(awn) (1961- )

Canadian singer. Her mellifluous voice and androgynous image have gained her a wide following beyond the country-music field where she first established herself. Her albums include Angel With a Lariat (1987), Shadowland (1988), Absolute Torch and Twang (1989), the Grammy Award-winning mainstream Ingénue (1992), All You Can Eat (1995), Drag (1997), and Invincible Summer (2000).

Lang, born in Consort, Alberta, started out as a performance artist. As a vocalist, she has been particularly influenced by US country singer Patsy Cline (1932-1963), whose material she often covered at the start of her career, calling her backing band the Reclines. She made her debut as an actor in 1992 starring in the film Salmonberries by German film director Percy Adlon. She also contributed music to the soundtracks of several films, including Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1993), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).
