All laparoscopies were videotaped; lesions were excised, if possible, and sent for histologic evaluation.

By the mid 1980s, it was well recognized that surgical procedures such as cataract removal, tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies (T&A), hernia repairs, hemorrhoidectomies, and laparoscopies could be done on an outpatient basis at less cost and with greater patient satisfaction.
